Institute for Intercultural Studies, Inc. is a California non-profit organization established in 1976.
The
primary purpose for which the Corporation is found is to improve
intercultural communication between speakers of English and those of
other languages, and to conduct educational research and training
programs in language, linguistics, and multi-cultural studies.
The
research programs support a variety of works in the development of
teaching materials, audio-visual teaching aids, and teacher-training
manuals. The results of the programs are published by the
Institute for
Intercultural Studies Press, and distributed to public at cost.
As part of the training program, the Institute offers an English as a
Second Language (ESL) Program for speakers of other languages.
The purpose of the ESL program is to assist adult and young-adult
speakers of other languages to improve their English proficiency in
order to further their educational and/or professional
goals. The program offers specialized instruction to strengthen
the participants' spoken English skills. Special teaching materials are
created through research, and teachers are trained by experienced
specialists.
The Institute's language programs have maintained the approved status
with the Bureau for Private Postsecondary
Education in the state of California.
The Federal Government has authorized the Institute to issue SEVIS I-20
forms to accept non-immigant students from abroard on the F-1 Student Visas.
